Baccarat the game that James Bond plays
Baccarat is one of the simplest card games introduced into France from Italy in the fifteenth century. The most popular form of baccarat is chemin de fer , which has been popularised by several James Bond movies like Casino Royale, Dr. No and Thunderball. The other versions of the game are baccarat banque and punto banco . Puunto banco, played in North America, is purely a game of luck, whereas the other versions involve both skill and luck.
In baccarat the cards from twos to nines have their face value. The tens and picture cards have no value. The value of the hand is obtained by adding the value of the individual cards and dropping the first digit if the sum equals or exceeds ten. Therefore a six and a four is worth zero. Any hand worth zero, the worst hand, is called a baccarat.
In chemin de fer, one player assumes the role of the banker and one of the remaining players the role of the player. The banker deals cards to the player and himself in a preset manner with both having the option to take or refuse additional cards. In the end the hand with the higher value wins. If the dealer wins then the players lose their stakes. If the player wins the players are paid according to their stakes. In the event of a tie no one wins.
Baccarat banque and punto banco have slightly differing rules.
Objective of the Baccarat Game:
Baccarat is a game of chance which offer the player a reasonable expectation of winning. The house edge can be reduced with money management and skillful play to 1 percent.
Baccarat is played with 6 or 8 decks of 52 cards. There are three types of bets and the game odds are high. Your objective is to successfully predict whether the player's hand or the banker's hand will get closer to a value of 9 or that the game will result in a tie.
You do not receive any cards.
Baccarat cards are counted in an unique fashion.
Cards from 2 to 9 mantain their face value. All ten-value cards - tens and all picture cards - count as 0 and aces count as 1.
How to play baccarat?
It really isn't necessary to know all the details of dealing baccarat, because the game flaws according to fixed rules and the bets are easy to make.
You decide whether to bet on the dealer or the player to get nearest to a total of 9.
Or you can bet the game to end in a tie. This is a less likely outcome but you win eight times your bet if you are right.
Baccarat Rules
If the cards in a hand total 10 or more, simply subtract 10.
For example, a 7 and a 7 = 14 but the Baccarat points value is 4. Again, a 10 and a 3 = 13, but in Baccarat it counts as 3.
Under certain circumstances a third card is dealt:
Player's hand receives a third card
if the first 2 cards points value equals 0 - 5.
Banker's hand receives a third card
if first 2 cards points value equal 0 - 2
or total 3 points unless the player's total is 8
or total 4 points unless the player's total is 0, 1, 8 or 9
or total 5 points unless the player's total is 0, 1, 2, 3, 8, or 9
or total 6 points unless the player's total is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 or 9
The banker always stands on a total of 7.
The player always stands on a total of 6 or 7.
A total score of 8 or 9 called a natural.
If either the player or the banker hand total 8 or 9 with their first 2 cards, the game ends.
Baccarat Payout Odds:
Banker 1:1-5% goes to the house
Player 1:1
Tie 8:1
House advantage: Player: 1.36%, Banker: 1.17%
A baccarat player can unexpectedly ride a trend and win 6 or more times in a row. A professional gambler expects to fully capitalize on developing trends in play.
